Quiz or Treats at Home Plate BBQ
Think you know Halloween? Then step up to the plate – Home Plate that is – for Quiz or Treats, a special quiz night featuring Halloween trivia and bonus questions accompanied by “scary ass shots.” Whether it’s the alcohol content that makes them scary or some other feature is anyone’s guess, but we’re willing to take the bait. In addition to buy-one-get-one Boxing Cat draft beers all night, the first prize team will take home a six-pack of brews and a voucher. This is just the first in a long weekend of Halloween fun that Home Plate has planned. To find out about the other events, click here. Free. 7.30pm. Home Plate BBQ

Party Animals in Hell at Aurora
With three rooms catering to a range of music, from techno to psytrance and house to hip-hop, Aurora is perfect for any large group of friends who can’t agree on how they should celebrate Halloween. DJs Pancake Lee, PsychicNova, Bodysnatcher, Jack J, and more will be spinning late into the night, as if you needed another excuse to stay up past your bedtime. Oh, and did we mention the whole thing is animal-themed? This is bound to get wild. To purchase tickets, click here. RMB 50-100. 10pm-5am. Aurora
Halloween Night Out at InterContinental Sanlitun
Looking for a slightly classier Halloween celebration? At RMB 288 for free flow red wine, white wine, bubbles, whisky, gin, vodka, tequila, beer, cocktails, and more, InterContinental Sanlitun’s Top Tapas and Top Bar parties are doubtlessly one of the city’s best deals for a night that straddles the line between spooky and sultry. And all of that against a backdrop of DJs, live performances, contests, and giveaways, culminating in one luxurious Halloween night. RMB 288. 8pm-2am. Top Tapas
Sugar House's Get Ur Freak On
If the name of the game on Halloween is candy, then you can’t go wrong with a Sugar House dance party, and especially one that takes its title from Missy Elliott’s classic tabla-infused bonkers 90s hip-hop anthem, Get Ur Freak On. Expect a classic vibey Sugar House night, complete with veteran DJs 4Tale, Puzzy Stack, and Dirty Dishes. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Halloween party without a costume contest, and those who take home first prize in the Best Look and Best Duo or Trio categories will earn themselves lifetime guest list spots for Sugar House events. RMB 90-120. 9.30pm-2am. Yue Space

DNC's Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Friends and regular contributors to our blog, Date Night China, have lined up a particularly spooky scavenger hunt which kicks off at 4Corners and will take you through the city’s desolate, haunted hutongs before eventually landing at Soi Baochao for the inaugural HashMash Cup 2020, which will see teams from DNC face off against the Beijing Hash House Harriers in a series of drinking games. May the best scavengers and iron-bellied drinkers win! RMB 66. 7.30pm-late. 4Corners and Soi Baochao
Cozy Halloween at Side Street
Billed as a “cozy Halloween night,” Side Street is catering to all those who want to get into the Halloween spirit without having to shout over a live band or thumping DJ booth in a crowded, sweaty room. To be sure, there will still be a costume contest, folks will be grooving to the tunes of DJ Leo Furioso, and Slow Boat Pilsners and Monkey Fist IPA will be flowing at RMB 35 all night, but comparatively speaking, this one is bound to be a bit more mellow. Free. 10pm-late. Side Street

La Prison at La Social
Still struggling to figure out what the hell you want to be for Halloween? Then let La Social decide for you with La Prison – all you have to do is choose between a cop or an inmate. Conversely, if you’ve already decided what you want to be and it’s neither of those options, don’t worry, you’re still welcome to join! Throughout the night, enjoy drink specials courtesy of Tequila Diligencias, Aguardiente de Valle, and Gin Crimson Pangolin. And if you win the costume contest – which admittedly, might be tough if everyone’s riffing on the same themes – then you’ll take home a bottle of Tequila Herencia de Plata. Free. 7pm-3am. La Social
